BERTHE Salegos

For the exhibition, the video is an artwork in a state of 'becoming' in the sense that the video changes from time to time, and it will never be repeated twice the same. The video progresses from the passage of the visitor, unconscious and casual protagonist of the exhibition. Therefore, the video is always different and almost autonomous, bringing it up to the metaphor of our life. The film explores the essence when in our existence, we make fortuitous encounters, in using images of the so-called "non-lieux" which are mixed with the events that are taking place during the exhibition. The title of the work suggests the idea of a meeting organized in some way, since it is announcing an 'Appointment', but as the film's duration is 13 minutes +1 (more accurately of 15 minutes minus 1), it makes the time binding to its randomness. As it determines, in a completely arbitrary way, the value of the moment: an encounter that occurs in a single moment, made by this "missing" minute that is obtained by fixing an order of possible variations related to our way of seeing. This minute "is operating" at the same time we see it.

Severine Berthe works on large scale video installations for some years now. Her artwork focuses on the relationship between Space and physical phenomenons such as weather conditions, space-time dimension, the presence of the audience. These are works that refer to philosophical texts or on physics studies or on natural sciences. In her works, there is a strong scientific component combined with an alchemy composed with different materials often rare and precious, which determines complex installations. Videos are made up not only of what "support" the videoprojection, but also of the interrelation with other materials or instruments, and above all, from the physical events during the exhibition in order to investigate the different transformations of reality. The passing time undertakes a fundamental role in her reflection and is discussed through the artwork "in becoming" or in waiting and seeing the minimum alteration of things, as it is shown in the other video presented here in maquette..
